Chinatown

I currently live in Visitacion Valley, but I spent most of my childhood in Chinatown. Chinatown is always busy during the day because the clamors of people shop for food, products, and many more. It's filled with Asians and tourist most of the time. The streets are dirty because people throw trash on the floor. There is graffiti all around the neighborhood. A great thing about Chinatown is that you can sometimes bargain with the store owners to get a cheaper price; however, I don't like to do that. Chinatown is a great place to live because it's affordable and you can get most of the stuff you need.

I am who I am despite the neighborhood I lived in. School, friends, and family are the reason why I am who I am today. My family has taught me how hard and important it is to earn money. I'm glad my parents didn't spoil me when I was a kid. Because my father is retired, my mother is working full-time and always looking for more hours, so that we could pay off our bills. School and family have taught me the difference between wants versus needs.

Middle school has negatively impacted my English skills. The school is a great school with brilliant teachers who's always trying their best to teach. It was up to the students if they wanted to learn or not. I didn't like school when I was young because all I wanted to do is have fun. As I grew up and went to college, I found out how important school was. It was too late to take back what I did during my middle and high school years. I slept in my English class most of the time in middle school. In high school, I skipped class so I can hang out with friends. I have only read about five high school level books in my whole life. If I did well in my middle and high school years, I think I would have been better at critical thinking and communication which will benefit me in the future.

My friends are probably in the same situation as me with their English skills. Every time we communicate, we don't use big vocabulary. We don't do anything to build on our knowledge. All we wanted to do is have fun. When we skip class, we usually go to Chinatown and stand in the streets and just chat, or hang out at this place known as "studio" for hours. That was when I lived in Chinatown. Ever since I moved, we drifted apart, and we don't hang out with each other that often anymore.

Technology is improving every day. Because of this, there are advertisements everywhere you go. Television, radio, internet, multimedia ads, billboards, and many more are some types of examples of advertisements. Some people choose to ignore it while some people choose to explore the advertisement even further. People like me might not even notice the advertisement. We didn't choose to ignore it, but it might be because we are too focused on what matters to us instead of looking around for advertisements.

Newspapers, magazines, internet, and television advertisements might interest me because I come across those very often. The reason why I might come across it is because I always use the internet, watch T.V, and look at food advertisements when they mail me coupons. Telemarketing, mail, posters and billboards, and radio advertisements might not interest me. One of the reasons why it might not interest me is because I have a feeling that it's a scam or my information might not be secure. For example, I'm not comfortable telling someone my personal information over the phone or through mail. This might apply to some other people also.

Cars, technology, or video game advertisements grab my full attention because it's in my field of interests. Other  emblazoned advertisements may grab my attention, but it won't grab my full attention. Special offers and coupons will definitely grab my full attention whatever form the advertisement they use because I love to save money. I have saved a lot of money from special offers and coupons off newspapers, online, magazines, and many more. Advertisements come to me in various ways. For example, boredom, curiousness, pop ups, reading, and many more. When I'm looking at a product, it depends if I already have their product or not. If I don't, it depends if I need it or not. If I don't need it I choose to ignore it whatever form of advertisement they use.

Overcoming procrastination

Ever since I started Year Up, I have been doing all my homework on time. I admit that I procrastinated on some of the homework, but I have been trying to get stuff done on time. I just realized how important time is. Time is moving too fast for me. I do not have a lot of free time because I go to class Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Fridays 8:30am to 3:30pm, and Wednesday 8:30am to 11:30am. I have work Friday 6pm to 11pm, Saturday 2:30pm to 10:30pm, Sunday 4pm to 12am, and Monday 7pm to 12am. Every Mondays and Friday, I go straight to work after class. I try to do my homework at work, but I always get distracted by my co-workers. The only free time I have is Saturday after 11pm, Sunday 10am to 3pm, Tuesday 3:30pm to 10:30pm, Wednesday 11:30am to 10:30pm, and Thursday 3:30pm to 10:30pm to work on my homework or hang out with my friends. Ever since class started, I have not been hanging out with them because I need to catch up on my sleep and finish the homework on time. Because of the limited free time, I always try to do my homework the day I receive it.

I hope I will be posting up more blogs even though it is not an assignment because I want to improve on my writing skills.

My goals for Year Up

My goal for Year Up is to become successful. I will be explaining about how I will accomplish these goals. To become successful in Year Up, I have to participate in class, do my assignments, and be on time. For participation, I have to ask questions if I am unclear about the topic the class is discussing. By answering and asking questions, I will take in more information and remember it easier. For public speaking, I will need to maintain eye contact throughout the whole class when I am presenting something to the class.
One of my goals that I have for myself in Business Communications is to enjoy that class. I’m not saying I dislike the class right now, but I dislike English class because my English skills are poor. When I say English skills, I mean everything such as writing, verbal, communication, vocabulary, and public speaking skills. I am looking forward to this class because I know this class will help me improve on all of my skills. Although Business Communications is not my favorite class, I hope I will enjoy that class as time goes by.
One of my goals that I have for myself in Professional Skills is to learn about the things I should do or should not do during I am at my workplace or outside the workplace. There are some things that I already know that I should do like getting up and letting an elderly person sit down on the bus, helping others when they need help, and  not interrupting someone when they are speaking. I want to learn more skills that can make me look and become professional.
One of my goals that I have for myself in IT class is to learn about how to html code. I want to learn how to create a website because I want to start an online business. In order to do that, I have to design a website for people to buy stuff. If that does not work out, I can start a social networking website and earn extra income by putting advertisements on it. I do not think we will learn how to html code in class, so I will have to learn how to do it myself on my free time. However, IT class will teach me computer skills that I will need to learn in order to learn how to html code.
